Firing Range Coordinator at FOI

The Total Defence Research Institute (FOI) is a government agency conducting world-leading research in defense and security to support Sweden's military and civil defense. About the position

As a Firing Range Coordinator, you will work closely with internal and external stakeholders and be a key function for safety, work environment, environment, and permit management. You contribute to structure, overview, and safe execution of an operation that partially involves advanced trials. The position is new, and you will have the opportunity to develop structure, working methods, and common routines. The Firing Range Coordinator coordinates daily operations, conducts risk assessments, and ensures that safety routines are followed. Furthermore, you will coordinate the physical work environment and actively work with SAM. You manage permits for explosive and flammable materials and ensure that documentation and environmental-related routines – such as noise logging and environmental supervision – are current.

As a firing range coordinator, you will also work with coordinating trial operations, contractors, and internal support functions. You will coordinate collaboration between internal units and external actors to ensure a safe and structured execution of the operations.

About the unit

The Weapons, Protection, and Security (VSS) department at Grindsjön conducts advanced research, development, and testing activities in weapons, protection, and security. Our unique testing facilities enable both standardized tests and large-scale firing and explosion trials. Through experiments and modern computational methods, we produce technical decision-making support to assess vulnerability and develop weapon and protection technologies. We also have expertise in the development, classification, testing, and chemical analysis of explosives and propellants, including rocket motor testing and aging studies.

Beautiful Grindsjön is located on Södertörn, about 40 km south of Stockholm. There are bus connections with Tumba, Västerhaninge, and Ösmo/Nynäshamn. You will be part of the VSS Operational Support unit belonging to the Weapons, Protection, and Security department.
